Who Needs a Study Permit?
The study permit is a document that allows foreign nationals to study at designated learning institutions (DLIs) in Canada. A DLI is a school approved by a provincial or territorial government to host international students.
Apply to study in Canada as an international student, extend your study permit and find out about working while you study or after you graduate, and you can use your Canadian study permit as a pathway to obtain Canadian permanent residence(PR).
The basic steps of the application process are Choosing a program and school, and after receiving the acceptance letter, you’ll be ready to apply for your study permit. We will help you to prepare and submit your application to Canadian immigration.
Documents to apply for a study permit:
- Proof of acceptance letter from your school
- A provincial attestation letter (PAL) from the province or territory where you plan to study
- Proof of identity
- Proof of financial support
- Letter of explanation why you want to study in Canada
Who doesn’t need a permit to study in Canada:
– Short-term students
– Family or staff of foreign representatives
– Members of foreign armed forces
– Registered Indians in Canada
– Temporary residents taking settlement and integration courses
– Temporary residents and asylum seekers taking French language and culture courses
Minor children in Canada don’t need a study permit if:
– they’re refugees or refugee claimants
– their parents are refugees or refugee claimants, or
– they’re in pre-school, primary or secondary school, and they’re already in Canada with a
parent who has a work or study permit
Work after you graduate – Post graduation work permit (PGWP)
You may also be able to apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) to continue working in Canada after you graduate.
