Self-employed Person Class
If you are interested in settling in one of Canada’s provinces or territories as a professional athlete, farmer, or artisan, etc., you may be become permanent residents on the basis of the ability to become economically established in Canada.
A self-employed person is a foreign national who has relevant experience and to make a significant contribution in Canada to one of the following:
⦁ Cultural activities: two one-year periods of experience in self-employed in cultural activities,
two one-year periods of experience in participation at a world-class level in cultural activities,
or a combination of a one-year of each.
⦁ Athletics: two one-year periods of experience in self-employed in athletics, two one-year periods
of experience in participation at a world-class level in athletics, or a combination of a one-year of each.
⦁ Purchase and management of a farm: two one-year periods of experience in the management of a
farm (this self-employed activity has been suspended since March 10, 2018, until further notice)
Cultural activities and athletics include the following occupations:
Music teachers, painters, illustrators, filmmakers, freelance journalists, choreographers, set designers, and coaches and trainers. Management experience includes theatrical or musical directors and impresarios.
Cultural activities and athletics at a world-class level include perform at the highest level in their discipline.
